It was 1920, and Fresnillo was living its silver years: trains arrived loaded with merchants, engineers and fortune-seekers, and the streets of the center smelled of damp quarry stone and metal fresh from the Proaño hill. That year, steps from the plaza, a colonial house of archways opened its doors with a name that would become part of the landscape: Hotel Guerrero.
Since then these walls have welcomed generations of travelers — miners and merchants, whole families, and pilgrims on their way to the Santo Niño de Plateros. The beamed ceilings, wrought-iron lamps and etched-glass doors remain witnesses to every arrival.
Today Hotel Guerrero is still what it was on day one: a house in the center of Fresnillo where travelers arrive to rest and leave feeling like locals. More than a hundred years later, the door is still open.
Rooms
Colonial woods, wrought iron and wine-toned textiles: every room keeps the character of the old house with the comforts of today.
The silver town
Step out of the hotel and into the historic center: the city of silver, of painter Francisco Goitia, and of "Cucurrucucú Paloma".
About 10 minutes away: the Santo Niño de Atocha shrine receives millions of pilgrims each year. We are a natural stop on the way.
The plaza, the parish church and the arcades are steps from our door. Old Fresnillo, best explored on foot.
Painter Francisco Goitia and Tomás Méndez, author of "Cucurrucucú Paloma", were born here. Proaño silver built the city.
